Eiheiji's Buildings
|
 |
This panoramic view of Eiheiji, painted on
a single sheet of handmade washi (Japanese paper), is about 5-1/2
meter square.
A priest in Aichi Prefecture worked 4-1/2 years to complete it
in 1964. It shows not only an overall view of Eiheiji but also
characteristics of the four seasons, with winter at the top,
spring on the left, fall on the right, and summer at the bottom.
- Sanmon/ All visitors, even those who come only for sightseeing,
are received as, and are expected to act as, participants in
religious training.
- Butsuden/ Please wear neat, modest clothing suitable for religious
practice.
- Hatto/ Be quiet at all times, especially in the zazen, lecture,
and ceremony halls.
- When walking either indoors or outdoors, always keep to the
left.
- Do not touch the bells, drums, other instruments, or alter
furnishings.
- Smoking is prohibited except in areas specifically posted
for smoking.
- Photographing the priest ミtrainees is prohibited.
8. No one who is intoxicated or who causes a nuisance will be
permitted to enter or to remain inside the temple.
- Do not step off the wooden corridor. If you step in dirt,
it will be carried into the corridors on your socks.
We hope this trip to Eiheiji will be a memorable experience for
you.
Thank you for your attention.
